Support group for families and friends of those who have lost loved ones to police violence

We are happy to announce an offering of a support group for families and friends of loved ones killed by the police. We hope that this can be a useful addition to resources for the families in the Bay Area and that this can serve as a healing space.

The group is scheduled to start on Saturday November 7th, between 3-5 PM at the Baha'i Center in Fruitvale (1434 35th Ave, Oakland, CA 94601). The group is free of charge, and childcare will be provided.

The facilitator, Derethia DuVal Derethia DuVal, Ph.D, MFT has been a psychotherapist in the Oakland Bay Area for 35 plus years. She works primarily with families of color and incorporates the realities of institutional racism and economic and health disparity in her treatment with families. Her therapeutic goals are to facilitate families and individuals in developing more healthy relationships, and also to facilitate understanding of the social realities they find themselves in and develop with them strategies to overcome and heal from the trauma of living in the United States as a person of color.
