BART Police Civilian Review Board Meeting

  • BART Board Room 2150 Webster St Oakland, CA, 94612 United States (map)

On June 8, we are calling on our community to show up in force and demand that BART finally do what it should have done long ago: fire Deputy Chief Antoinette Turner. Talking points here!

Let's be clear about who Antoinette Turner is.

When Shaquille Coleman was assaulted, had his hair violently pulled, and was unlawfully transported and dumped across city lines, Turner was not a BART officer. She was a San Leandro Police officer. She was there. She witnessed what happened. And according to the video, she laughed.

She did not intervene.
She did not stop it.
She did not report it.

And this was not the only controversy connected to her time at the San Leandro Police Department.

Yet somehow, despite this history, Turner was hired by BART Police and promoted into one of the highest-ranking positions in the department, overseeing what BART calls "Progressive Policing and Community Engagement."

There is nothing progressive about standing by while a Black man is abused.

There is nothing progressive about rewarding misconduct with promotion.

And let's talk about the leadership that made this possible.

BART Police Chief Kevin Franklin knew about the Shaquille Coleman incident before hiring Turner. He knew the history. He knew the facts.

And he hired her anyway.

That tells us everything we need to know.

This is not just about one person. This is about a culture of impunity at the highest levels of BART Police. It is about a department that continues to protect itself instead of protecting the public.

The top cop at BART knew. He did not care.

That is why we are demanding accountability from both Antoinette Turner and the leadership that elevated her.

WE DEMAND:
• The immediate firing of Antoinette Turner
• Accountability from BART Police leadership
• Justice for Shaquille Coleman
• An end to the culture of protection and promotion for officers connected to abuse
