O22 - National Day Against Police Terror: End Gendered Violence & Murder of Queer and Trans Folx!

  • Cesar E. Chavez Plaza 910 I Street Sacramento, CA, 95814 United States (map)

Let's come together on October 22nd for #O22Sac to stand in solidarity with our siblings to demand an end to the system’s abuse and targeting of queer and trans folx on National Day Against Police Terror. This is one of many actions taking place in #Sacramento on #O22 to raise awareness about Capitalism’s systematic use of #policeterror against marginalized communities.

“Since Donald Trump was elected in November 2016, trans people have seen their hard-fought rights repeatedly rolled back. In many cases, the U.S. government has dropped the language of “gender” entirely, changing the word to “sex” and defining it in biological terms. The U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Health & Human Services have led this drive, effectively erasing the existence of trans people by insisting that only genitalia and chromosomes define a person.

Between the first day of 2019 and June 2020, over 40 trans people have been killed in both solved and unsolved homicide cases in at least 34 cities, 15 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Of the 40 trans people murdered in the past year and half, over half were Black and nearly three-fourths were women.

The ruling class has a long history of trying to divide the working class on lines of gender. Now, as the country is gripped by pandemic, the government has the opportunity to seize on the chaos and uncertainty by pushing their anti-trans agenda. This agenda, through denial of the basic rights of human dignity and respect, promises to further marginalize, terrorize and isolate trans people from their working-class siblings. In the middle of a crisis like the one we are facing, bigotry is one weapon in the arsenal of the elites to distract us from our real enemy: the capitalist ruling class.
