APTP Statement: Community Demands Answers in Wake of FBI Killing in East Oakland

Oakland, CA — The following is a statement from the Anti Police-Terror Project:

Today, the FBI shot and killed a person in East Oakland. We know that Libby Schaaf has recently brought in the FBI, the ATF, and the CHP into Oakland. We have expressed concern about increased contact between our communities and these law enforcement agencies.

There is not enough information as of yet to know what happened or why. But we know the people must demand the answers or they will never come. APTP’s First Responders have begun a people's investigation. And we are demanding answers from the administration to the following questions:

  1. What happened?

  2. Under what jurisdiction was the FBI agent operating?

  3. What is the scope of the FBI’s presence in the City of Oakland? How many officers are stationed here, and what is their purpose?

  4. What interactions has the FBI had with the city administration? With the council?

  5. Have new agreements been made with the FBI since Libby called them into town? If so, what was city council's role in the process?

  6. How would the City of Oakland hold the FBI and the individual agent accountable?

Our hearts go out to all of the families and communities who lost loved ones and were impacted by the violence in Oakland today.

Stay tuned to our social media channels for developments and next steps.
