F**k Your Curfew
Community,
You’ve seen the aerial footage and the footage on the ground.
You joined from home via our livestream.
You provided solidarity in the form of food, sanitation, medical support, prayer medicine, compassion and sanctuary.
You were there in the streets and on the front lines.
You showed up. WE SHOWED UP. In the THOUSANDS!!!
Together, we said #FuckYourCurfew in outright defiance of state repression.
OPD claims the #SitInForOurYouth was not violently policed because the people remained peaceful.
We reject that assessment outright.
On Monday evening, our young folks from Oakland Tech led a march 15,000 strong in peaceful unity and were met downtown by OPD with tear gas and flashbang grenades, before curfew and without provocation.
14th and Broadway remained nonviolent last night because the police stayed out of it!
TO BE CLEAR, to be alive is inherently peaceful.
The police force in this country, by its very nature, is a state-sanctioned militia whose first principle is to harm and incarcerate Black folks and wage war against Black life.
TO BE CLEAR, no matter how The People enact their dissent, the police force is an illegitimate and racist entity. They are violent when they’re standing still. They are violent in their riot gear and out of it. They remain violent whether they take a knee or take a life. They. Are. Violent.
TO BE CLEAR, the state did not "allow" us to protest, as Libby Schaaf is attempting to reframe it, now that she has seen what our coalition created, we said F*** YOUR CURFEW, the streets belong to the People of Oakland.
TO BE CLEAR, we remain in solidarity with Black-led uprising in every form. We will not be divided from our fellow freedom fighters because of tactical differences. As abolitionists, our call is always #FreeEmAll.
